Top 5 tips for women to keep fit year round Featuring Mike Blaze

1- What are your top go-to exercises for women who are pressed for time (under 30 minutes a day)?

Most (if not all) women I work with are looking to firm and tone while decreasing body fat percentage; because larger muscle groups (chest, legs, back) burn more calories than smaller muscle groups (arms, shoulders) and because standing exercises burn more calories than seated exercises, sessions are focused mostly on the larger muscle groups while staying on the feet and moving around as much as possible. A typical 30 minute training session is a higher intensity, total body session which includes different combinations of chest presses and push-ups, squat and lunge variations, along with pull-ups, lat pulldowns, and rowing exercises. We’ll also include plank variations to strengthen the core (abs and lower back) as well as exercises to strengthen the arms and shoulders. A key factor is to vary each session as much as possible to keep things fun and exciting, and I’m VERY BIG on fun while keeping things interesting!

2- What a your top gyms to work out?
All of my training with clients is done either in private personal training studios or corporate/ residential gyms in buildings where they work or live; these types of facilities are typically private, non-member facilities which provide more space and better access to equipment than many member gyms which tend to be very crowded throughout the day.

3- How can I lose those last 10 pounds?
When it comes to weight loss, many people mistakenly focus on the number on the scale when the focus should really be on fat loss; the lower a person’s body fat percentage and the higher their lean muscle mass, the more calories they’ll burn throughout the day and the better they’ll look and feel. To reduce body fat while increasing lean muscle mass, a person should focus mostly on the standing, larger muscle exercises as the ones described in #1 above. Proper nutrition along with rest, recovery, and good stress management are also EXTREMELY important!
